Life and Death
Public Lightbox
2008

An advertising lightbox is used to illuminate a reproduction of the Life magazine cover that initially reported on the well-being of
the Beatle, after rumours of his death appeared in the press, encouraged by rapid fans and the purported 'clues' left by the
other Beatles in lyrics and on album cover designs. Rather than quell the stories, this cover graphic inadvertantly furthered
them, when the verso Lincoln Mercury ad bled thru and the featured car appeared to drive thru the Beatle ("he blew his mind out
in a car").

Part of a larger body of work investigating the impulse of music fans to develop mythology around their favorite performers,
thus writing themselves into the saga.
